BANBURY TOWN BADMINTON LEAGUE 14/04/2008
Marlborough ‘B’ secured the mixed division three title with a 5-4 victory over a Wellesbourne team that saw their own slim hopes of promotion disappear. Victories in the final two mixed rubbers by Matt Weaver with Becky Flynn and Adam Reed with Judith Hassell finally seeing Marlborough home. Brackley Town ‘A’ now finish as runners up in this division.
Cramic ‘B’ kept their promotion hopes alive in the mixed division two when Mike Akers, Mark Gilkes, Brian Gardner, Jo Chiappinelli, Beth Smith and Christine Tuffin combined to beat Feathers ‘C’ BY 7-2.
Feathers ‘A’ completed another memorable season in the mens division one, remaining unbeaten following a 9-0 success over Deddington ‘A’, and winning the title so conclusively that they will also collect the Dave Thompson Memorial Trophy. Congratulations go to, Chris Tustian, Mark Stroud, Ian Tustian, Stuart Quick, Jamie Archer and Rhys Roberts. At the other end of this division Marlborough ‘A’ preserved their top flight status after Steve Watkin, Simon Hammans, Kyle Smith, John White, Adam Reed and Steve Armstrong stormed to a 9-0 victory over relegated Three B’s.

Marlborough ‘A’ secured the mixed division two title and promotion to the top division, after Steve Watkin, Kyle Smith, Simon Hammans, Amanda Bailey, Linda Chadwick and Wendy Tyndsley combined to beat Feathers ‘C’ by 8-1.
Brackley retained runners up spot to Feathers ‘A’ in the top division, following a 6-3 success over Bicester that owed much to wins in all three mixed rubbers by Jonny Bougard with Mary Grashoff, Paul Beckett with Val Bryden and Ian Wright with Hazel Browne.
Brackley Town ‘A’ top the mixed division three table, after Tony Kyffin, Tim Merritt, Marcus Lesniak, Carla Campion, Jo Wright and Linda Downer completed their fixtures with a 6-3 success over Chipping Norton ‘B’. Second placed Marlborough ‘B’ have one match remaining and are just one point behind the leaders, after Steve Armstrong, Paul Winch, Adam Reed, Zoe Checkley, Katherine Hazelton and Judith Hassell maintained their bid for the title with an 8-1 victory over the Brackley Town ‘B’ team. Also still in contention in this division are Wellesbourne, who with three matches in hand, are in third place, 30 points behind the leaders.
Feathers ‘A’ completed their ladies division one fixtures when Emma Cramond, Claire Tait, Nicola Meadows and Laura Dee combined to beat Brackley by 4-2.
Jemma Ainsby remained unbeaten with Sally Bowden, Eileen Hart and Yvonne Quick, as the ladies division two champions, Feathers ‘B’, completed their fixtures with a 3-3 draw against Cramic.
An unbeaten display by Stuart Quick with Ian Tustian and two successes for Chris Tustian with Rhys Roberts, secured a 5-4 victory over Brackley which clinched the mens division one title for unbeaten Feathers ‘A’.
An unbeaten display by Mark Gilkes with Michael Grigsby allied to successes by Mick Morris with David Peachey and Ray Chambers with Jamie Watts, provided Cramic with a 5-4 victory over Deddington ‘C’ in the mens division two, which confirmed runners up position and promotion to the top flight for the victors.

It was a tale of two Feathers in the mixed division one, as Feathers ‘A’ in the form of Chris Tustian, Rhys Roberts, Ian Tustian, Jamie Archer, Emma Cramond, Nicola Meadows, Claire Tait and Nicola Isted beat Chipping Norton by 6-3 and Deddington ‘A’ by 9-0 to extend their unbeaten run to eleven matches and take the title, while Feathers ‘B’, despite a 5-4 success over Cramic ‘A’, then slipped to an 8-1 defeat at the hands of Bicester , which sealed their fate in terms of relegation to division two.
Table topping Three B’s suffered a setback in the mixed division two, when Deddington ‘B’s Barry O’connell and Sally Haslam won the final mixed rubber to secure a 5-4 victory for the village team, who are currently languishing at the foot of the division.
Mixed rubber successes for Paul Garrett with Sue Pugh and David Ludlow with Jean Blencowe , secured the first win of the season for Brackley Town ‘B’, by 5-4 in their mixed division three clash with Chipping Norton ‘B’.
In the ladies division one Emma Cramond, Claire Tait, Nicola Meadows and Sarah Lloyd combined to give Feathers ‘A’ a 6-0 victory over Three B’s.
In the ladies division two Marlborough and Cramic ‘B’ enjoyed a close encounter and ended up sharing the points in a 3-3 draw. Cramic’s Christine Tuffin was unbeaten in the match, with Lynda Grigsby, Marjorie Morris and Faye Barrington, while good performances from Amanda Bailey, Linda Chadwick, Claire Reynolds and Katherine Hazelton enabled Marlborough to gain a highly creditable draw.
Two teams who are strong contenders for promotion to the mens division one met in division two, and second placed Chipping Norton saw their hopes dashed as third placed Cramic ran out winners by 6-3, to move within just two points of their rivals, with a game in hand. Cramic’s Mike Akers and Brian Gardner won all of their three rubbers, while Mark Gilkes and Michael Grigsby won two out of three and Mick Morris with Ishtiaq Ahmed gained one rubber to complete the victory. With only one match remaining in this division, Cramic at home to bottom club, Deddington ‘C’, Cramic’s first journey into the top division appears a distinct possibility
